AI Noise Suppression
Remove background noise from your microphone in real-time using NVIDIA Maxine AI technology for crystal-clear audio.
Overview
Jyv Desktop's AI Noise Suppression uses cutting-edge machine learning to remove unwanted background sounds from your microphone feed in real-time.
Powered by NVIDIA Maxine: Our noise suppression leverages NVIDIA's broadcast-quality AI models, the same technology used by professional streamers and content creators worldwide.
Common noise types removed:
- Keyboard typing and mouse clicks
- Background music and TV audio
- Traffic, sirens, and outdoor sounds
- Fan noise, air conditioning, and HVAC systems
- Paper rustling and ambient room noise
- Dogs barking and other household sounds
How It Works
The AI model analyzes your audio stream in real-time, identifying which frequencies contain your voice and which contain background noise. It then selectively removes the noise while preserving your natural voice quality.
Zero latency: Processing happens in under 10ms, so you won't notice any delay during calls or recordings. Your voice remains perfectly synchronized with video.
The AI model is trained on millions of hours of audio data, allowing it to:
- Distinguish between human voice and other sounds
- Preserve natural voice characteristics and tonality
- Adapt to different speaking styles and accents
- Handle multiple speakers without confusion
Setup Guide
Enable noise suppression
Open Jyv Desktop and navigate to Settings → Audio → Microphone.
Toggle AI Noise Suppression to ON.
Select your microphone
Choose the physical microphone you want to apply noise suppression to from the Input Device dropdown.
Make sure your communication apps (Zoom, Discord, Teams) are set to use the Jyv Virtual Microphone as their input device.
Adjust suppression level
Use the slider to control how aggressively noise is removed:
- Low (30%): Subtle noise reduction, preserves more natural sound. Best for quiet environments.
- Medium (60%): Balanced for most use cases. Recommended starting point.
- High (90%): Maximum noise removal for very loud environments like coffee shops or open offices.
Test and fine-tune
Click Test Microphone to hear how your voice sounds with noise suppression enabled.
Try typing, playing music, or making other noises while speaking to test the suppression effectiveness.
Tip: Start at 60% and increase only if needed. Higher levels can sometimes make your voice sound slightly processed.
Advanced Configuration
For fine-tuned control, click Advanced Settings:
- Voice Preservation Mode: Prioritizes natural voice quality over maximum noise removal
- Adaptive Suppression: Automatically adjusts based on detected noise levels
- GPU Acceleration: Use your NVIDIA RTX GPU for faster processing (reduces CPU usage by 70%)
- Spectral Gating: Additional frequency-based noise reduction for extreme cases

}Best Practices
Pro Tips for Best Results:
- Position your microphone 6-12 inches from your mouth for optimal voice pickup
- Use a cardioid or directional microphone for better sound isolation
- Start with 60% suppression and adjust based on your environment
- Test with a friend before important calls to ensure clarity
- Enable GPU acceleration if you have an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or newer
- Close noisy applications or move farther from loud sound sources when possible
Microphone Recommendations
For best noise suppression performance, we recommend:
- USB Condenser Mics: Blue Yeti, Audio-Technica AT2020USB+, Rode NT-USB
- XLR + Interface: Shure SM7B, Electro-Voice RE20 with Focusrite interface
- Budget Options: Samson Q2U, Audio-Technica ATR2100x
Even basic headset microphones work well with Jyv's AI - you don't need expensive gear!
Troubleshooting
Voice sounds muffled or robotic
If your voice sounds processed or unnatural:
- Lower the suppression level to 40-50%
- Enable Voice Preservation Mode in Advanced Settings
- Check that your microphone isn't too far from your mouth
- Disable any other noise suppression in your communication apps (Discord, Zoom, etc.)
Background noise still audible
If noise isn't being removed effectively:
- Increase suppression level to 70-80%
- Enable Spectral Gating for additional noise reduction
- Check that AI Noise Suppression is actually enabled and the green indicator is showing
- Ensure your apps are using "Jyv Virtual Microphone" as input
High CPU usage
If noise suppression is consuming too much CPU:
- Enable GPU Acceleration in Settings (requires NVIDIA RTX GPU)
- Close other AI-powered applications
- Temporarily disable Voice Enhancement to reduce processing load
On NVIDIA RTX GPUs, AI features use dedicated tensor cores, resulting in near-zero CPU impact.
