Export audio profiles, settings, and transcripts. Create backups and transfer configurations between computers.

Overview

Jyv Desktop lets you export profiles, settings, and data for backup, sharing, or migration to another computer.

What You Can Export:

Export Formats

Jyv supports multiple export formats:

Export Profile

Export a single audio profile for backup or sharing.

  1. Open Profiles

    Jyv Desktop main window → Profiles tab

  2. Right-Click Profile

    Find the profile you want to export and right-click it

  3. Select Export

    Context menu → Export Profile

  4. Choose Format and Location

    Dialog appears:

    • Format: JSON (recommended) or other formats
    • Location: Choose where to save file
    • Filename: Auto-generated (e.g., "Gaming Profile.json")
  5. Save

    Click Save

    Profile is now exported as JSON file on your computer

Export Settings

Export all app settings, preferences, and configurations.

  1. Open Settings

    Tray icon → Settings

  2. Go to Advanced or General

    Left sidebar → Advanced or General

  3. Find Export Button

    Look for "Export Settings" or "Backup" button

  4. Choose Export Options

    Checkboxes appear. Select what to export:

    • ☐ All profiles
    • ☐ App settings
    • ☐ Hotkey assignments
    • ☐ Device preferences
    • ☐ Transcription history

    Select all by default - uncheck if you want to exclude something

  5. Choose Format

    JSON (for import) or ZIP (for full backup)

  6. Export

    Click Export Settings

    File is saved to your Downloads or chosen location

Best Practice: Export settings after making big changes or before updating Jyv. This way you have a backup if something goes wrong.

Backup All Data

Create a complete backup of everything in Jyv Desktop.

  1. Open Settings

    Settings → AdvancedBackup & Recovery

  2. Click Full Backup

    Button: "Create Full Backup"

  3. Choose Location

    Select where to save backup file (usually Documents or Desktop)

  4. Wait for Backup

    Jyv creates ZIP file containing:

    • All profiles
    • All settings
    • Hotkey assignments
    • Device configurations
    • Transcription history
    • Application cache
  5. Backup Complete

    ZIP file is ready. Store it safely (external drive, cloud, etc.)

Backup Frequency: Create backups:
  • ✓ Before major Jyv updates
  • ✓ After creating new important profiles
  • ✓ Monthly (if you use Jyv heavily)
  • ✓ Before migrating to new computer

Import Settings

Restore profiles and settings from exported files.

  1. Open Settings

    Settings → AdvancedBackup & Recovery

  2. Click Import

    Button: "Import Settings"

  3. Select File

    Browse and select JSON or ZIP file you exported earlier

  4. Preview Import

    Jyv shows what will be imported:

    • Number of profiles
    • Settings that will be restored
    • Any conflicts detected
  5. Confirm Merge or Replace

    Choose how to handle existing data:

    • Merge: Add imported items to existing (keeps both)
    • Replace: Overwrite existing data (full restore)
  6. Import

    Click Import

    Settings are restored. Jyv may restart.

Before Importing: Make sure you trust the source. Only import from backups you created yourself.

Cloud Sync

Automatically sync settings across devices (premium feature).

Enable Cloud Sync

  1. Open Settings

    Settings → AdvancedCloud Sync

  2. Sign In

    Sign in with Jyv account (or create one)

  3. Toggle Cloud Sync ON

    Enable "Sync Settings to Cloud"

  4. Choose What to Sync

    Select which items to auto-sync:

    • ☐ Profiles
    • ☐ Settings
    • ☐ Hotkeys
    • ☐ Transcription history
  5. Sync

    Click Sync Now to upload settings to cloud

On New Computer

  1. Install Jyv Desktop
  2. Open Settings → Cloud Sync
  3. Sign in with same Jyv account
  4. Click Download Settings
  5. All profiles and settings are restored
