Overview

Jyv Desktop offers extensive configuration options to tailor the application to your needs. This guide covers all settings and their recommended configurations.

Access Settings: Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the bottom left, or press Ctrl+, (Windows) / ⌘+, (Mac).

Audio Settings

Default audio devices

Set which physical devices Jyv uses for input and output:

  • Default Output Device: Where Jyv sends audio (e.g., your speakers or headphones)
  • Default Input Device: Which microphone Jyv uses

For full per-app routing capabilities, set your system's default audio devices to "Jyv Virtual Speakers" and "Jyv Virtual Microphone" in your OS sound settings.

Master volume

Controls the overall output volume. This is independent of per-app volumes.

  • Default: 80%
  • Recommended: Set to 100% and use per-app volumes for fine control

Audio buffer size

Affects latency and performance:

  • Low (128 samples): 3ms latency - best for music production, may cause crackling on slower CPUs
  • Medium (512 samples): 12ms latency - balanced, recommended for most users
  • High (2048 samples): 46ms latency - reduces CPU usage, fine for general use
Settings → Audio → Buffer Size
Low: 128 samples (~3ms) - Music production, DJing
Medium: 512 samples (~12ms) - Gaming, calls (recommended)
High: 2048 samples (~46ms) - Basic audio playback

Sample rate

Audio quality setting:

  • 44.1 kHz: CD quality, lower CPU usage
  • 48 kHz: Professional standard, recommended
  • 96 kHz: High-resolution audio, higher CPU usage

Recommendation: Use 48 kHz for the best balance of quality and performance.

Microphone Configuration

Noise suppression

Covered in detail in the AI Noise Suppression guide.

  • Suppression level: 0-100% (recommended: 60%)
  • Voice preservation mode: Prioritizes natural voice quality
  • Adaptive suppression: Auto-adjusts based on environment

Voice enhancement

AI-powered voice improvement features:

  • Enhance clarity: Boosts voice frequencies for better intelligibility
  • Bass boost: Adds warmth to thin-sounding voices
  • De-esser: Reduces harsh "S" and "T" sounds
  • Compression: Evens out volume levels for consistent audio

Toggle individual enhancements on/off to find the best sound for your voice. Start with "Enhance clarity" only, then add others as needed.

Echo cancellation

Removes echo from your microphone when using speakers instead of headphones:

  • OFF: Not needed when using headphones (recommended)
  • ON: Enable when using speakers to prevent feedback loops

Microphone boost

Amplify a quiet microphone:

+0 dB - No boost (default)
+10 dB - Modest boost for slightly quiet mics
+20 dB - Significant boost for very quiet mics
+30 dB - Maximum boost (may introduce noise)

High boost levels (20dB+) may amplify background noise. Use noise suppression to compensate.

Hotkeys & Shortcuts

Configure global keyboard shortcuts for common actions. See the full Hotkeys guide for details.

Default hotkeys

Ctrl+Shift+M - Toggle microphone mute
Ctrl+Shift+D - Toggle deafen (mute all audio)
Ctrl+Shift+P - Open profiles menu
Ctrl+Shift+H - Toggle Jyv window
Ctrl+, - Open settings

macOS uses ⌘ instead of Ctrl

Custom hotkeys

Create shortcuts for:

  • Switching to specific profiles
  • Adjusting individual app volumes
  • Toggling AI features
  • Routing apps to different outputs
  1. Add custom hotkey

Go to Settings → Hotkeys → + Add Hotkey

  2. Choose action

Select what the hotkey should do (e.g., "Switch to Profile")

  3. Record key combination

Click Record and press your desired key combination

  4. Save

Click Save and test your new hotkey!

Appearance & UI

Theme

  • Auto: Follows system dark/light mode
  • Light: Always use light theme
  • Dark: Always use dark theme (recommended for streaming setups)

UI scale

Adjust interface size for different screen sizes and resolutions:

  • 75%: Compact, for small screens
  • 100%: Default
  • 125%: Comfortable for 1440p monitors
  • 150%: Best for 4K displays

Minimize to system tray

When enabled, Jyv minimizes to the system tray instead of the taskbar. Recommended to keep Jyv accessible without cluttering your taskbar.

Start minimized

Launch Jyv in the background when Windows/macOS starts. Perfect for "set it and forget it" workflows.

Show app icons

Display application icons next to app names in the volume mixer. Makes it easier to identify apps quickly.

Performance Settings

GPU acceleration

Offload AI processing to your NVIDIA RTX GPU:

  • Requires: NVIDIA RTX 2060 or newer
  • Benefits: 70% lower CPU usage, faster AI processing
  • Recommended: Enable if you have a compatible GPU

With GPU acceleration, AI noise suppression and voice enhancement use dedicated tensor cores, resulting in near-zero CPU impact.

Start with Windows/macOS

Launch Jyv automatically on system startup:

  • Enabled: Jyv starts automatically (recommended for consistent audio control)
  • Disabled: Start Jyv manually when needed

Background process priority

Low - Minimal system impact, may cause audio dropouts
Normal - Balanced (recommended)
High - Best audio performance, uses more CPU
Realtime - Maximum priority (only for audio production)

Realtime priority should only be used for professional audio work. It can cause system instability if used incorrectly.

CPU usage limits

Cap Jyv's CPU usage to prevent system slowdowns:

  • Unlimited: Best performance
  • 75%: Leave headroom for other apps
  • 50%: Conservative, for older CPUs

Advanced Settings

Warning: These settings are for advanced users. Incorrect configuration may cause audio issues or system instability.

Virtual audio device channels

Number of audio channels for virtual devices:

  • 2 (Stereo): Standard, works with all apps
  • 5.1 / 7.1: For surround sound setups

ASIO driver mode

Professional low-latency audio driver (Windows only):

  • Disabled: Use standard Windows audio (recommended for most users)
  • Enabled: Ultra-low latency for DAWs and music production

Debug logging

Enable detailed logs for troubleshooting:

  1. Enable debug mode

Settings → Advanced → Enable Debug Logging

  2. Reproduce issue

Use Jyv normally until the issue occurs

  3. Export logs

Settings → Advanced → Export Debug Logs

Attach the .log file when contacting support

Reset to defaults

Restore all settings to factory defaults:

Settings → Advanced → Reset All Settings

This will delete all profiles, hotkeys, and custom configurations. Export your profiles first if you want to keep them!

Configuration file location

For manual editing or backup:

Windows: %APPDATA%\Jyv Desktop\config.json
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Jyv Desktop/config.json
Linux: ~/.config/jyv-desktop/config.json
