Overview

Focus Mode helps you stay concentrated by minimizing audio distractions and optimizing your audio environment for deep work.

Focus Mode Includes:

When to Use Focus Mode

  • Deep Work: Writing, coding, design
  • Meetings: Important calls requiring concentration
  • Streaming: Avoid accidental alerts on stream
  • Gaming: Competitive gaming requires focus
  • Studying: Minimize distractions while learning

What is Focus Mode

Focus Mode is a preset audio configuration optimized for concentration:

Notifications Muted

All system notifications, Discord pings, Slack messages are silenced.

Visual notifications still appear; you see messages but don't hear them.

Voice Enhanced for Clarity

Your voice is optimized for clarity. If you need to communicate, people hear you clearly despite background noise.

Background Noise Reduced

High-level noise suppression keeps environmental sounds minimal.

  • Keyboard typing: Muted
  • Fan noise: Minimized
  • Traffic sounds: Suppressed
  • Your voice: Preserved

CPU Optimized

Transcription and resource-heavy features are disabled to preserve CPU for your work.

Enable Focus Mode

  1. Open Jyv Desktop

    Tray icon → Open or hotkey

  2. Find Focus Mode Toggle

    Main window or sidebar → Focus Mode button/toggle

  3. Click to Enable

    Toggle switches to ON

  4. See Changes

    Jyv applies Focus profile immediately. You notice:

    • UI changes color/appearance (visual indicator)
    • Notifications become silent
    • Audio is enhanced for your voice
  5. Optional: Set Timer

    Click Set Timer to disable Focus Mode after X minutes

    Useful: Set 90-min Focus session with break after

  6. Work in Focus Mode

    Start working. You're in optimized audio environment.

  7. Exit Focus Mode

    Toggle OFF when done. Settings return to previous state.

Focus Settings

Customize what Focus Mode does.

  1. Open Settings

    Tray icon → Settings

  2. Go to Focus Mode

    Left sidebar → Focus Mode (or Advanced → Focus)

  3. Configure Options

    Check/uncheck what Focus Mode should do:

    • ☐ Mute notifications
    • ☐ Mute alerts
    • ☐ Disable transcription
    • ☐ Enable noise suppression
    • ☐ Enable voice enhancement
    • ☐ Block distracting apps
    • ☐ Minimize non-work windows
  4. Set Notification Whitelist

    Optional: Some notifications should come through:

    • Emergency alerts from specific people
    • Critical system notifications
    • Calendar reminders for meetings

    Add these to whitelist so they still notify you

  5. Save Settings

    Click Save

Focus Mode Settings Example
Focus Mode Enabled:
✓ Mute notifications
✓ Mute alerts  
✓ Disable transcription
✓ Enable noise suppression (level 0.95)
✓ Enable professional voice enhancement
✗ Don't block apps (I need to use them)

Notification Whitelist:
✓ Emergency contacts: Mom, Boss
✓ Calendar: Show meeting reminders
✓ System: Critical battery alerts only
✗ Social: Discord, Slack, WhatsApp (muted)

Focus Profiles

Create different Focus profiles for different work types.

  1. Create Multiple Profiles

    Create profiles like:

    • Focus - Coding: Transcription OFF, noise suppression high
    • Focus - Writing: Voice clarity, minimal features
    • Focus - Remote Meetings: Enhanced voice, clear mic
  2. Assign to Focus Mode

    Settings → Focus Mode → Active Profile During Focus

    Choose which profile activates when Focus Mode turns on

  3. Switch Focus Profiles with Hotkey

    Assign different Focus profiles to hotkeys:

    • Ctrl+Alt+F1 → Focus - Coding
    • Ctrl+Alt+F2 → Focus - Writing
    • Ctrl+Alt+F3 → Focus - Meetings
Pro Tip: Create one "Universal Focus" profile for most work, then specific profiles for specialized tasks.

Schedule Focus Mode

Automatically enable/disable Focus Mode on a schedule.

  1. Settings → Focus Mode → Schedule

    Find "Schedule Focus Sessions" section

  2. Enable Scheduling

    Toggle: "Auto-Enable Focus Mode" → ON

  3. Set Daily Schedule

    Example for writer:

    • Monday-Friday: 9 AM - 12 PM (Focus - Work)
    • Monday-Friday: 2 PM - 5 PM (Focus - Work)
    • Saturday-Sunday: Off
  4. Set Break Reminders

    "Break Reminder Every:" 90 minutes

    Jyv reminds you to take a break (visual notification, optional sound)

  5. Set Cool-Down Duration

    After break reminder, "Re-enable Focus after:" 15 minutes

    Enough time for a proper break, then back to Focus Mode

  6. Save Schedule

    Click Save

Focus Schedule Example (Remote Worker)
Monday-Friday:
  9:00 AM - 12:00 PM → Focus Mode: Enabled (Work Profile)
  12:00 PM - 1:00 PM → Focus Mode: Disabled (lunch break)
  1:00 PM - 3:00 PM → Focus Mode: Enabled (Work Profile)
  3:00 PM - 3:15 PM → Focus Mode: Disabled (coffee break)
  3:15 PM - 5:00 PM → Focus Mode: Enabled (Work Profile)

Break Reminders: Every 90 minutes
Break Duration: 15 minutes

Saturday-Sunday: No Focus Mode

Break Focus Session

Take a break from Focus Mode.

  1. In Focus Mode

    You're actively using Focus Mode

  2. Click Take Break

    Button appears: "Take a Break (15 min)"

  3. Focus Mode Disabled

    Notifications re-enabled, audio returns to previous state

  4. Break Timer Counts Down

    15-minute timer shown. You have time to stretch, get water, etc.

  5. Auto-Resume Focus

    After 15 min (or when timer ends), Focus Mode re-enables automatically

    Or manually click to resume sooner

  6. Continue Working

    Back in optimized audio environment

Pomodoro Technique: Focus works great with Pomodoro:
  • Set Focus timer: 25 minutes
  • Take break: 5 minutes
  • Repeat 4 times
  • Long break: 15-30 minutes (after 4 cycles)
