RAM (Memory)

• 4GB RAM: Minimum, basic routing and volume control only
• 8GB RAM: Comfortable for most users, voice enhancement works well
• 16GB RAM: Recommended for transcription and heavy feature use
• 32GB+ RAM: Future-proofing, not necessary currently

With <4GB available RAM, features may stutter or crash. Close other apps to free memory.

Storage (Disk)

• Installation Size: ~100-150MB
• AI Model Cache: ~500MB (downloaded once)
• Transcript Storage: ~5-10MB per hour of audio
• Free Space Needed: 1GB minimum recommended

SSD vs HDD: SSD is strongly recommended for AI features. HDD will work but transcription processing may be slower.

Audio Hardware

Jyv Desktop works with any Windows-compatible audio device:

• Microphones: USB, 3.5mm, Bluetooth, built-in laptop mic
• Speakers: Any speaker, headphones, or audio interface
• Audio Interfaces: Behringer, Focusrite, RME, etc. (fully supported)
• Virtual Audio: VirtualAudio, VoiceMeeter, etc.

GPU (Graphics Card)

GPU acceleration is optional but helpful:

• Not Required: Jyv works fine without dedicated GPU
• Beneficial: NVIDIA/AMD discrete GPU speeds up transcription
• Supported: NVIDIA CUDA, AMD ROCm (automatic detection)
• Integrated GPU: Intel UHD/Iris, AMD Radeon (supported but limited benefit)

Windows Version Support

Windows Build

For best compatibility, keep Windows updated:

• Latest Patch: Jyv works best with latest Windows updates
• Monthly Updates: Recommended for security and stability
• Feature Updates: Optional but beneficial (major version bumps)
• Minimum: At least Windows 10 version 1909 (November 2019)

Check Build: Settings → System → About → Windows specification

64-bit Only

Jyv Desktop is 64-bit only (x64 / x86-64):

• 32-bit Windows (x86) is not supported
• Most Windows installations from 2013+ are 64-bit
• Check: Settings → System → About → System type

Microphone Access

Windows requires permission to use the microphone:

1. Grant Permission on First Run

   When you first run Jyv, Windows will ask permission to access microphone. Click Yes to allow.

2. Verify in Settings

   Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone

   • Microphone access: Should be ON
   • Jyv Desktop should be in the allowed apps list

3. If Blocked

   If you denied permission:

   1. Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone
   2. Toggle "Microphone access" OFF then ON
   3. Find Jyv Desktop in app list and toggle ON
   4. Restart Jyv Desktop

Audio Device Access

Jyv needs to read audio devices to detect speakers/headphones:

• Usually granted automatically
• Some antivirus may block device access
• Whitelist Jyv Desktop in security software if needed

Startup & Background

You can optionally allow Jyv to run at startup:

• Settings → Apps → Startup → Find Jyv Desktop
• Toggle ON to auto-start on boot
• Optional, only if you want Jyv always running

How to Check Disk Space

1. Open File Explorer

   Press Windows key + E

2. Right-click Drive C

   Select Properties

3. Check Free Space

   Look for "Free space" value:

   • >1GB: You're good, plenty of room
   • 500MB-1GB: Comfortable, consider cleaning
   • <500MB: Low, delete old files
   • <200MB: Critical, free up space immediately

Free Up Space

• Delete Old Files: Desktop, Downloads folder cleanup
• Disk Cleanup: Windows built-in tool (search "Disk Cleanup")
• Old Transcripts: Delete old transcripts you don't need
• Temp Files: Run Disk Cleanup to remove Windows temp files
• Uninstall Apps: Remove unused software

Internet Optional

Jyv Desktop works offline, but some features benefit from internet:

• Initial Setup: Download AI model (one-time, 500MB)
• Updates: Auto-check for app updates (optional)
• Sync: Cloud sync optional (future feature)
• Core Features: Work 100% offline after setup

Speed Requirements

• For Setup: 10Mbps+ recommended (download 500MB model)
• For Updates: Any internet speed works
• For Daily Use: No internet needed
• Bandwidth Usage: Minimal - only checks for updates weekly

Firewall & VPN

• Firewall: Jyv may ask for exception to check updates
• Antivirus: Whitelist Jyv Desktop if it blocks updates
• VPN: Works fine, no special configuration needed
• Proxy: Respects Windows proxy settings automatically

Jyv Desktop is compatible with most audio software:

Known Incompatibilities

• Older Audio Drivers: May have issues, update drivers
• Aggressive Antivirus: Some block Jyv, add to whitelist
• Dolby Atmos: May conflict, disable if issues occur
• Custom Audio Formats: Non-standard formats not supported
